They tested out their weather stations this afternoon, which include thermometers, anemometers, rain gauges, and windsocks made almost entirely from recycled materials. #slessatx #scholarscitizensleaders #ipredictblueskiesahead

They raised over $400 toward their service project, partnering with Heroes N More to give struggling children a reason to smile, hope and dream. #slessatx #bigtopperformers @heroesnmore

Our 2nd grade brought the Westward Expansion to life today on the South Lawn as the culmination of an in-depth, interdisciplinary unit involving history, math, communication and literacy, music, and art. The students constructed replicas of log cabins, covered wagons, sod houses and more in the SLES iLab, and each student created a square depicting pioneer life for their communal quilt. #slessatx #gowestyoungfriends
Kudos to the 53 SLES students in grades 3-8 who read at least five titles on the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List in the fall and voted for their favorite. Applications Due MARCH 1st!
Religious Worlds of New York Summer Institute for K-12 Teachers
Public, private, and parochial school teachers nationwide are invited to apply for the July 2017 Religious Worlds of New York summer institute – a three week Professional Development program (with a generous stipend) that helps them teach about American religious diversity.
The institute will meet from July 10 to 28, 2017 at Union Theological Seminary, in the Manhattan neighborhood of Morningside Heights. All participants will receive a $2,700 stipend to help pay their travel, housing, and living expenses for the duration of the institute. Applications are due by March 1. For detailed information and application instructions, please visit www.religiousworldsnyc.org.
In today’s climate of religious bigotry and extremism, America’s K-12 teachers can play an important role in promoting interfaith understanding. The Religious Worlds institute gives teachers the tools they need to help build a more inclusive society. We hope you’ll apply!
