World Languages

¡Hola y bienvenidos!

At St. Luke’s Episcopal School, language is more than a skill—it’s a bridge to understanding the world. Our Foreign Language program inspires students from the earliest years through Middle Level to embrace new cultures, develop critical thinking skills, and deepen their literacy through the study of Spanish and Latin.

Spanish: A Journey that Begins Early

Our Spanish program launches in early childhood with a robust, thoughtfully sequenced curriculum. Beginning with our youngest learners, students are immersed in language acquisition that encourages early literacy, authentic communication, and cultural appreciation.

Spanish instruction continues across every grade level at St. Luke’s, with dedicated teachers who specialize in the developmental stages of each age group. Beginning in 5th grade, Spanish is a core subject and St. Luke's graduates can place into Spanish II in High School.

This tailored approach ensures that students grow confidently in their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills at every step of their journey. Thanks to early exposure and a nurturing environment, our students gain both the fluency and cultural competency that set them apart.

Latin: A Legacy of Excellence

Rooted in a tradition of classical education, our Latin program empowers students to connect with history, literature, and modern language systems. St. Luke’s Latin scholars have consistently demonstrated excellence in classical competitions and academic achievement, reflecting the strong foundation of our program.

Today, our Latin curriculum is innovating to meet the needs of a diverse and dynamic world. The introduction of contemporary resources like Suburani enriches classical studies with real-world themes of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Students engage in creative projects using platforms such as Duolingo, Scratch, CoSpaces, Gimkit, and Piskel Pixel Art, as well as AI-driven tools like ChatGPT (text-to-text), DALL-E (text-to-image), and Runway Gen-2 (text-to-video).

We are proud that St. Luke’s students leave our Latin program with a deep appreciation for language structure, critical analysis skills, and a readiness for advanced high school coursework.
