At St. Luke’s, learning another language opens the door to new cultures, perspectives, and ways of understanding the world. Through Spanish and Latin, students strengthen communication, literacy, critical thinking, and their appreciation for people and traditions beyond their own.
Across the language programs at St. Luke’s, strong relationships and joyful learning give students the confidence to take risks, communicate, and grow. Our goal is for students to leave St. Luke’s with strong language skills, greater cultural understanding, and readiness for advanced study in high school.
Spanish: A Journey that Begins Early
Spanish begins with our youngest learners and continues throughout the PK–8 experience.
Instruction builds purposefully from year to year as students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through engaging, age-appropriate learning. Beginning in fifth grade, Spanish becomes a core academic subject, and students may leave St. Luke’s prepared to enter Spanish II in high school.
Latin: A Legacy of Excellence
Our Latin program connects students with the language, history, literature, and culture of the classical world. Students examine how Latin continues to shape English and other modern languages while strengthening vocabulary, analysis, and logical thinking. Creative projects and thoughtfully selected resources make the ancient world relevant and engaging for today’s learners.
