Help Our Students Navigate Social Media and Tech Together

For parents of children ages 3 to 14, navigating the world of social media and technology can feel overwhelming. Questions arise daily: How much screen time is too much? What apps are safe? How can I teach my child to interact online in a responsible, respectful way? The rapid pace of change in the digital world can make it hard to stay ahead, leaving parents concerned about safety, exposure to inappropriate content, and social pressures amplified by online platforms.

At St. Luke’s, we believe that tackling these challenges requires a proactive partnership between parents and the school. Our approach follows a gradual release model, which acknowledges that students’ proficiency with technology grows as they grow. Just as we don’t rush students to learn algebra before mastering addition, we don’t expect them to fully understand the complex world of technology overnight. Instead, we meet students where they are, giving them just-in-time education to navigate technology at each developmental stage.

To support this shared responsibility, we are excited to announce our upcoming Parent Connections event on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:30 p.m., featuring special guest Laura Tierney, Founder and CEO of The Social Institute. Laura’s work focuses on helping students build healthy relationships with technology, empowering them to use social media in ways that reflect high character and responsibility. Her session will focus on equipping parents with the tools and knowledge to guide their children through the digital landscape with confidence.

This event is an excellent opportunity to strengthen our partnership and ensure we are all on the same page when it comes to technology use. We look forward to continuing this conversation and working together to help our students make wise, balanced decisions as they navigate their tech-filled lives.

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 22nd—we hope to see you there!
