5th Grade Lady Tigers Crowned SACS Champions; 6th Grade Finishes Strong in Championship Run

It was a remarkable weekend for St. Luke’s Athletics as both the 5th and 6th grade Lady Tiger basketball teams delivered standout performances at the SACS Tournament.

The 5th-grade Lady Tigers captured the SACS Championship title in dramatic fashion. After a commanding 20-point semifinal victory, they faced the only team to have defeated them during the regular season. Trailing by eight at halftime, the Tigers responded with determination and defensive intensity, holding their opponents to just two points in the second half. A buzzer-beater forced overtime, where the Lady Tigers outscored their opponents 6–0 to secure the championship trophy. Their resilience and composure under pressure defined the tournament — and their season.

The 6th-grade team also showcased exceptional grit throughout their tournament run. In a hard-fought semifinal matchup marked by defensive discipline, the Tigers mounted a late-game comeback to earn their spot in the SACS Championship game. A clutch short jumper and free throw in the final seconds sealed the victory and highlighted the team’s poise.

In the championship contest, the 6th graders battled back from an eight-point halftime deficit, cutting the margin to four and creating strong scoring opportunities down the stretch. Though they ultimately fell just short, they left the court having demonstrated perseverance, teamwork, and heart — hallmarks of their impressive season.

Beyond the action on the court, the St. Luke’s community showed extraordinary support throughout the weekend. Parents, classmates, alumni, teachers, administrators, and even the school mascot filled the stands, embodying the unity and Tiger pride that make St. Luke’s special.

The school extends sincere thanks to Coach Alex, Coach Juan, and Coach Cortinas for their leadership and dedication all season long. Their commitment to developing both athletic skill and character has made a lasting impact on these student-athletes.

It was a weekend of championship spirit, resilience, and community — a proud moment for the Lady Tigers and for St. Luke’s.
