St. Luke's offers boys and girls the opportunity to participate in competitive golf with players of similar abilities. Our team competes in the ISAL and golfers of all skill levels in grades five through eight may join: there are no tryouts for St. Luke's golf. Students are assessed by ability and then placed into a smaller grouping of players. The most skilled golfers are placed in the "Eagle Flight," intermediate-level golfers are placed in the "Birdie Flight," and less experienced or novice golfers are placed in the "Par Flight." Each flight is a tournament unto itself, and different starting tees are used to appropriately fit each flight's level of play. Every golfer will have the experience of competing in at least one to two tournaments during the season, which runs from March through early May.
The golf team practices at the First Tee Driving Range, by Brackenridge Park, every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5:15. Students are transported by bus from school to tournaments and practices, but parents are required to make arrangements for their golfers to be picked up afterward. Regular attendance at practice is expected, and tournament participation is partially based on attendance.
