The John R. Foster Scholarship

The John R. Foster Scholarship

The family of John R. Foster created the John R. Foster Scholarship Fund at St. Luke’s Episcopal School to honor the memory of a much loved, extraordinary man. “Johnny” was born in Del Rio, Texas. He attended Sewanee: The University of the South, which he said transformed his life. First and foremost, his Episcopal education forged deep commitments to lifelong learning, service to others, and worship in the Anglican tradition.

The John R. Foster Scholarship Fund provides a full scholarship for a middle school student who exhibits a demonstrated record of academic achievement and the potential to become leaders in the school community. The need-based scholarship will be awarded to a recipient who is fully prepared for the rigors of St. Luke’s Episcopal School. The first Foster Scholar joined the St. Luke's community in the fall of 2015.

St. Luke's is grateful to the entire Foster family for their commitment to this scholarship to honor John who embodied the values we espouse. In particular, he put his faith into action through his service to others, a value we seek to cultivate in each and every St. Luke's student.

Episcopal Schools are populated by a rich variety of human beings, from increasingly diverse religious, cultural, and economic backgrounds. In fact, the intentional pluralism of most Episcopal schools is a hallmark of their missions. The Episcopal schools exist not merely to educate, but to demonstrate and proclaim the unique worth and beauty of all human beings as creations of a loving, empowering God.” - National Association of Episcopal Schools
