St. Luke’s Episcopal School made a school-wide effort this Veterans Day to honor the men and women who have bravely served our country. SLES Student Voice representatives planned a special Veterans Day chapel service, inviting SLES parent COL John A. Stasney, RET to address the community. A slide show featuring pictures of family members who have served or continue to serve in the armed forces reminded the audience of the school’s ties to the US military and the debt of gratitude we owe to those who sacrifice to keep us safe.
SLES students dedicated their own acts of service to these generations of soldiers and their families: St. Luke’s 6th graders helped serve a special Veterans Day lunch at Good Samaritan Community Services, and SLES students of all ages wrote cards and notes of thanks to be sent to local veterans with special treat bags. The Student Voice also held a breakfast fundraiser, donating the proceeds to Operation Homefront to support the families of deployed service members.
