What are the Virtues of Co-Education?
Choosing the right school for your child is a complex decision. “Does the school have a reputation for academic excellence?” Brain research myths say that single sex education is a cure for poor education results for boys (language arts) and girls (math and science). The research also shows that it is a good idea to keep boys and girls apart in the classroom during their informative years.
Global research (US, Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia) compares the achievement of students in single-sex and co-ed schools and shows academic achievement in single-sex schools is not convincingly superior.
What is our goal?
Our job is to prepare our children for the reality of adulthood. Girls and boys need to learn how to work together, compete and respect one another. Co-ed schools allow children to learn from each other with girls benefitting from emulating the assertiveness of boys, while boys benefit from the studious and calming influence of girls in the classroom. Co-ed classrooms are a healthy environment that aid in deflating stereotypes and bring a richer learning experience.
What does a great teacher actually do?
A great teacher teaches individuals and not genders. A great teacher differentiates all lessons and the lessons meet the needs of all children. A great teacher knows her students and knows the teaching techniques that work for each. It is up to a great teacher to understand and bring out the best in each student.
