Q: Do you have to be Episcopalian to attend St. Luke’s?
A: No. In keeping with the inclusive nature of the Episcopal Church, St. Luke’s welcomes a rich variety of students, faculty and staff from all religious backgrounds. Our students attend chapel every day with the aim of producing responsible, gracious citizens who are conscious of their role in God’s world.
Q: What is the average class size like? Will my child receive one-on-one attention from their teacher?
A: We believe small classes and one-on-one relationships between teachers and students are the best way for children to gain the self-esteem and sense of direction they need to succeed in life. Our commitment to keep class from 10 – 20 students ensures that every child’s special gifts are known, encouraged and appreciated by their teachers, every day.
Q: I’ve heard St. Luke’s is great for girls and boys. Is that true?
A: We believe co-education better prepares students to successfully navigate the challenges of the real world.
- Scholarship: In our small classes, we are able to observe that boys and girls challenge each other to work harder and to learn in different ways. Helping each child discover what motivates and captivates them is essential to instilling a life long love of learning.
- Citizenship: It is only through shared experiences with those who are different from us that we can truly learn to be empathetic, loving and accepting of those differences. Our focus on citizenship is instrumental in teaching today’s children, boys and girls, how to first be good people, then good friends, and finally good citizens of their world.
- Leadership: Current research shows that boys are falling behind girls in many key subjects. If they are to become the leaders of tomorrow alongside their female peers, young boys of today must compete, work and learn to get along with high-achieving girls for the rest of their academic and professional lives. Co-education will best prepare them to do this.
Q: What is the current ratio of boys to girls and what is St. Luke’s doing to attract more boys?
A: Currently, 60% of our students are girls and 40% are boys. Though St. Luke’s is already a welcoming and exciting environment for boys to learn, we are undertaking steps to make our school even more attractive to boys and their parents, without changing the nurturing, highly personalized environment that St. Luke’s is known for.
St. Luke’s has added a new slate of academic and enrichment courses to complement existing programs that should especially appeal to boys. Programs include a robotics program, a “hands on” science lab, Lego competitions, a National Junior Honor Society, Model UN, a stock market club and much more.
Teachers at all grade levels have been asked to asses their classrooms and curriculum to ensure that their teaching styles, materials and activities do not hinder boys’ education or absorption of material in any way.
We’ve made a complete overhaul of our Athletics program, bringing in some of the best coaching talent available in our area. We’ve added sports like football and baseball and increased the credentials of our coaching staff.
Q: I know there are problems with public schools, but since we already pay such high taxes, we’re struggling to justify paying for private school education, especially in this economy. Why should we?
A: Because your child will receive something that is infinitely valuable and woefully lacking in public schools today: a character-based education. Education alone is meaningless without giving a child a set of values that will carry him or her through life. St. Luke’s focuses on nurturing the whole child – mind, body and spirit – so that our graduates reflect the characteristics of lifelong scholarship, dedicated citizenship and confident leadership essential to the development of outstanding and successful persons.
Q: What is the tuition at St. Luke’s? How does it compare to other local private schools?
A: Tuition ranges from $7,300 for pre-school to $15,000 for middle school. St. Luke’s falls in the middle of the other local private schools, though we feel that the value of the well-rounded, character-based education our students receive is priceless.
Q: How do I get an application and what is the deadline for applying?

Q. Are sibling and alumni candidates given preference in the admission process?
A. While our current families and alumni are very important to us, SLES is not the school for every child. Therefore, siblings, alumni, gender balance, and active parishioners will receive preferred consideration when all other factors are considered equal. Admission decisions are based upon the qualifications of the individual student.
Q. What is St. Luke’s policy on non-discrimination?
A. St. Luke’s Episcopal School admits qualified students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students of the School. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin in administration of educational policies, admission policies, and other school administered programs.
