Curriculum

Chris Jones Middle School Curriculum Guide

The St. Luke’s Middle School curriculum is vibrant and intellectually stimulating. The curriculum includes courses in English, mathematics, history, science, foreign language, visual art, drama, music, chess and physical education.  In middle school, students begin to play on school sports teams and compete in a full three seasons of sports: basketball, six-man football, volley-ball, softball, golf, baseball, soccer, track and field, cross-country. Each middle school student has an advisor with whom they meet for 45 minutes every week.
Four days a week all middle school teachers run Office Hours at the end of the day. During Office Hours students can work with teachers on their homework, ask questions, complete missed or unfinished work and seek help to prepare for the next school day or upcoming tests, essays and projects.

The middle school faculty is divided into two teaching teams: 5th and 6th grade and then 7th and 8th grade eighth grade are organized around teaching teams that work with a core group of students. This ensures that every student is well known to the group of teachers and will be assessed in a thoughtful and meaningful way. Each child in these grades works with four core teachers: one each in English, math, and history and science. These teachers share a common set of students, a common schedule, and shared planning time. As a result, they have ample opportunity to meet and discuss the individual needs of students and the structure of curriculum within their grade level.
Our middle school faculty members are skilled professionals who have demonstrated a high level of competency and interest in working with children in this age group. Many of them have advanced degrees in their subject area and are committed to teaching and inspiring young people in their early adolescence.
