St. Luke’s Episcopal School curriculum follows the Core Knowledge Sequence guidelines, which is designed for grades K-8th. The Core Knowledge Sequence is a detailed outline of specific content to be taught in language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, and the fine arts. As the core of St. Luke’s curriculum, it provides a solid, coherent foundation of learning, while allowing flexibility to meet our local needs.
The Core Knowledge Sequence is not meant to outline the whole of a school’s curriculum, but rather to provide a coherently organized plan for the content that should make up at least 50% of the curriculum, with the remainder of instruction devoted to skills and local requirements.
Our teachers have a made a commitment to teach all the topics in the Core Knowledge Sequence at the assigned grade levels. This commitment ensures consistency, and it helps avoid gaps in knowledge, as well as needless repetitions in instruction, as students progress through the grades.
