Book Review – Hoofbeats: Katie and the Mustang Book Two by Kathleen Duey
This second book in the Hoofbeats series describes Katie’s journey to Oregon with themustang and Hiram, the former ranch hand of the Stevens. As they travel, Katie imagines thatshe will find her uncle out west and that she will finally become part of a family of her own.Katie talks to the mustang about her hopes and worries As their bond grows stronger, themustang becomes less wild. Hiram remarks on how calm the horse has become: “ ‘He is used toall this.’ He gestured, taking in the milling crowds and hundreds of wagons.”
Katie, Hiram and the mustang also meet a nice family along the way, and they becomefriends. Readers who enjoyed Book One about Katie and her wild horse will also like this storyabout their deepening friendship.
