Spanish Teacher, grades 4-8
Ms. Gough began teaching Spanish at St. Luke’s at the beginning of the 2005 school year. She holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, with a specialization in Spanish, from Texas Tech University as well as a Secondary Certification from (then) Southwest Texas State University. Prior to coming to St. Luke’s, Ms. Gough taught in the public school system for 28 years. She taught math and reading at the elementary level but spent 22 years teaching Spanish I and II at the junior high and high school levels in the Judson ISD. Ms. Gough was also the dance team director during those 22 years.
Although Ms. Gough is not a native speaker, she has a love of the language and culture, stemming from the fact that her father’s family was born and raised in Mexico. She attended school in Mexico and has also traveled extensively throughout the country.
“My goal at St. Luke’s is that in addition to being successful in high school Spanish after graduation, the Spanish student will also have an appreciation and respect for the Spanish language, its history and culture. When one learns another language, it opens the mind to being more accepting of other’s differences.”
